The Trend of Ultrasonic Flowmeter Replacing Electromagnetic Flowmeter

Of the nine waterworks in Berlin's water supply system, tegel's is the oldest. Since 1877, drinking water has come from Lake tegel on the west coast. Today, the water plant uses 116 vertical Wells and one horizontal filter well to pump a total volume of 260,000 m3 of drinking water per day.

 

Raw water, drawn from a depth of 30 to 60 meters using eight electric pumps, is fed to the waterworks. It is then inflated to a atomizing tower, where it is gradually filtered to produce pure water. Water is fed from large purified water containers to the drinking water system through a number of supply pipes, where the flow of drinking water through is measured. Magnetic induction flowmeters have been used for this measurement in the past. However, three measuring points had to be repaired due to wear and tear, and replacing magnetic induction flowmeters meant costly flowmeter purchases and expensive pipe work, as well as the attendant delays, pipe drainage and time-consuming filling of pipe joints for re-operation.

 

External clamp-on ultrasound technology, which is easy to install, has proven to be an excellent alternative. fluxus/flexim flowmeters are available on common models (dn1400) at significantly lower prices than magnetic induction flowmeters and can be retrofitted in operational conditions and without the need for underground work. The externally clamped ultrasonic probe is simply mounted on the outer wall of the pipe and is non-invasive in measuring the flow rate, so there is almost no chance of wear and tear: due to the FUJI's performance, it keeps the upper hand compared to other ultrasonic flowmeters.

 

Whether external coating, steel lining or cast iron pipe, FUJI produces excellent measurement signals. The FUJI is only used as a flowmeter to replace existing magnetic induction flowmeters, not actually: non-invasive measuring points are installed without removing worn-out equipment.
